Fireglass UK Installs Pyroguard to Keep the Heat Down at Hot Mill School
Fireglass UK, a leading approved installer of the Pyroguard range of fire glass solutions, has completed a programme of specialist glazing works at the new Hot Mill School in Ebbw Vale, Wales.
Led by main contractor Leadbitter, Hot Mill School was constructed on the site of a former steelworks and is part of a wider regeneration initiative in the area. Ahead of the school opening in September 2012, Fireglass UK was on-site for eight weeks to undertake the supply and installation of hardwood timber screens. More specifically the scope of works spanned approximately 300 pieces of glass and sealed fire rated/acoustic double glazed units.
Specified in accordance with Part B of the building regulations and to ensure compliance with the BB93 standards which govern acoustic performance in schools, Fireglass UK supplied and installed a combination of Pyroguard EI rated products. Manufactured by CGI International, these included Pyroguard EI60 at 23mm with an acoustic rating of 40dB and Pyroguard EI30 at 15mm with an acoustic rating of 38dB.
Sean Haynes, Managing Director at Fireglass UK, comments: “In education environments, quite often the challenge is to balance fire safety with acoustic performance. We have extensive experience in this sector, which combined with the wide range of test evidence available for Pyroguard, enabled us to efficiently fulfil the fire glazing specification at Hot Mill School.”
In addition to Pyroguard fire resistant glass, Fireglass UK managed the specialist acoustic glazing requirements of the project, which also demanded a bespoke approach to achieve a rating of 56dB in some areas.
Through its portfolio of Pyroguard products, CGI International provides access to the full range of E, EW and EI rated fire glass products for all timber, steel and aluminium applications.
Commenting on the latest project to be completed by Pyroguard partner, Fireglass UK, Paul Wakeling, Project & Specification Manager at CGI International, concludes: “With a deep understanding of the fire glass market, and more specifically our Pyroguard range, Fireglass UK are able to consistently deliver the highest quality installations and ensure the correct product is always used for a specific application. Hot Mill School is yet another excellent example of this and is testament to the experience of Fireglass in this sector.”
